About Kansas City Mushroom Company

Fresh. Local. Honest. Grown with intention.

Kansas City Mushroom Company is a family-run gourmet mushroom farm rooted in the heart of the Midwest. We specialize in premium small-batch cultivation of exotic mushrooms like Lion's Mane, Pink Oyster, Shiitake, and more all grown sustainably, harvested weekly, and sold directly to our community.

Founded by Nick and Melissa Freeman (with plenty of help from our daughter Hazel), our farm started as a educational project and quickly became a mission:

To feed our neighbors well, build a more sustainable food future, and reconnect people with what fresh really means.

What We Believe

We're not just growing mushrooms — we're cultivating something bigger:

Transparency over trendiness

Our mushrooms are grown right here, by hand, using zero shortcuts. No mystery ingredients, no plastic-heavy waste, no middlemen.

Community first

We sell face-to-face at farmers markets, offer direct-to-door CSA options, and work with local chefs who share our values. No factory farms. No faceless logistics.

Sustainability from the start

From locally-sourced hardwood substrates to minimal packaging and carbon-conscious workflows, we design every part of our farm to minimize waste and maximize flavor.

Food should be joyful

Whether you're a home cook or a culinary pro, we believe mushrooms should taste good, feel good, and do good.
